LA INVESTIGACIÓN ES LA FUENTE DE UNA MEJOR SALUD
En 1998, la FCV definió su norte estratégico para sus futuros diez años, que incorporó la investigación, la calidad y la educación como los tres pilares fundamentales de su modelo de desarrollo. Para asumir este compromiso, realizó inversiones importantes en formación del talento humano y en la adecuación y creación de una nueva infraestructura. Esto ha posicionado a la Fundación como una institución de salud que genera conocimiento y desarrollo social, y a su Instituto de Investigaciones, como uno de los cinco mejores del país.

En 1998, the FCV set its strategic goals for the following ten years and incorporated research, quality, and education as the three fundamental pillars of its development model. To take on this commit¬ment it made considerable investments in human talent education, and the purchase and adaptation of facilities. This has positioned the FCV as a healthcare organization that generates knowledge and social development, and has made the research Center one of the five best in the country.
EL PRIMER QUINQUENIO
En octubre de 1997, la FCV inauguró su sede actual con motivo de la visita presidencial a la ciudad y aprovechó la ocasión para organizar el lanzamiento oficial del Instituto Colombiano de Investigaciones Biomédicas, ICIB, en con-junto con varias entidades santandereanas de perfil académico e investigativo. Esta iniciativa demostraba el compromiso de la Fundación con la investigación y la innovación, y su deseo de convertir a Santander en un nuevo polo de desarrollo científico en el país.
LA UIS UNIVERSIDAD INDUSTRIAL DE SANTANDER, EL INSTITUTO COLOMBIANO DEL PETRÓLEO ICP, LA FOSCAL Y LA UNAP RESPONDIERON AL LLAMADO Y DEMOSTRARON SU COMPROMISO CON LA INICIATIVA SANTANDER, POLO DE DESARROLLO CIENTÍFICO Y TECNOLÓGICO.
THE FIRST FIVE YEARS
In October of 1997 the FCV inaugurated its current offices during the visit of the President of Colombia to the city, and also used the opportunity to officially launch the Instituto Colombiano de Investigaciones Biomédicas (ICIB: Colombian Institute for Biomedical Research) together with other academic and research institutions of Santander. This initiative gave proof of FCV’s commitment to research and innovation and of its goal to make Santander a new scientific development center for the country.

EL SEGUNDO QUINQUENIO
La FCV sigue apostándole a la investigación, hasta el punto de convertirla en una actividad transversal a toda su organización. Así mismo, promueve el desarrollo tecnológico a través del Centro de Bioingeniería e impulsa la innovación a través del Laboratorio de Biotecnología, que inauguró un nuevo campo de acción para la Fundación: la investigación clínica.
Desde el año 2000, el Centro de Investigaciones de la FCV se ha consolidado como uno de los centros privados de salud más productivos en investigación en Colombia. Así lo demuestran diversos indicadores:

The FCV continues to set its hopes on research to the point of making it a cross organizational activity. The organization also promotes technological development though the Bioengineering Center and drives innovation through the Biotechnology Laboratory, which has opened a new field of action for the FCV: clinic research.
Since the year 2000, the FCV Research Center has become one of the most productive private health centers in Colombia in terms of research. The following indicators are proof of this:
RETOS POR ALCANZAR
Para el próximo quinquenio, la FCV desarrollará su plan más ambicioso: el Hospital Internacional en el marco de la zona franca en salud. Para estar a la altura del reto, se ha formulado un Plan de Desarrollo Integrado al 2020, que incluye no solo investigación, sino también desarrollo tecnológico e innovación en cuatro áreas clave: a) cáncer y trasplante de órganos, b) genética, biología molecular y terapia génica cardiovascular; c) nanotecnología y generación de materiales biomédicos y d) TICs y telesalud. Así mismo, plantea la formación de talento humano a nivel de doctorado y posdoctorado, y el fortalecimiento del Comité de Ética en Investigación.
THE FOLLOWING FIVE YEARS
Over the next five years, the FCV will develop its most ambitious plan: the International Hospital within the health free trade zone. To rise to the challenge, the FCV has formulated an Integrated Development Plan to 2020 which includes research, technological development, and innovation in four key areas: cancer and organ transplant; genetics, molecular biology and cardiovascular genic therapy; nanotechnology and biomedical material generation; and Information and Communication Technologies and Telemedicine. The plan also foresees training human talent at doctoral and post-doctoral levels and strengthening the Research Ethics Committee.
UNIDAD DE ENSAYOS CLÍNICOS UEC
La Unidad de Estudios Clínicos, UEC, de la FCV diseña ensayos clínicos para la industria farmacéutica con miras a desarrollar nuevas alternativas terapéuticas para las enfermedades de mayor impacto sobre la humanidad, especialmente en el área cardiovascular. En diciembre de 2011, la UEC logró la certificación en Buenas Prácticas Clínicas por parte del INVIMA.
CLINICAL TRIALS UNIT UEC
The FCV’s Clinical Trials Unit, UEC, designs clinical trials for the pharmaceutical industry with the objective of developing new therapeutic alternatives for the diseases that generate the greatest impact on humanity, particularly in the field of cardiovascular studies. In December of 2011 the UEC obtained the INVIMA Good Clinical Practices certification.
