Desde su creación, la razón de ser de la FCV ha sido la prevención, diagnóstico, tratamiento y rehabilitación de las enfermedades cardiovasculares, dando siempre un trato especial a aquellos que no cuentan con los recursos suficientes para cubrir la atención médica que necesitan.
WORKING FROM OUR HEARTS
From its creation, the raison de d’être of the FCV has been to prevent, diagnose, and treat cardiovascular diseases and rehabilitate patients who suffer them, providing special care to those who do not have enough resources to pay for the medical attention they need.
PROGRAMAS Y PROYECTOS INSTITUCIONALES UNA OBRA DE CORAZÓN A CORAZÓN
El espíritu de servicio y solidaridad que ha caracterizado a la Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia tiene su origen en un programa llamado Corazón a Corazón. Una iniciativa de tipo humanitario que en 1981 lideraron los doctores Franklin Roberto Quiroz y Víctor Raúl Castillo Mantilla, atendiendo el ofrecimiento de una organización norteamericana llamada Variety Club International. Esta entidad fue fundamental en los inicios de la FCV, cuando con sus recursos operaba niños enfermos del corazón de los países del tercer mundo en los Estados Unidos.
INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS A 'HEART TO HEART' PROJECT
The spirit of service and solidarity that has characterized the Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia originated in a program called Heart to Heart, a humanitarian initiative led by doctors Franklin Roberto Quiroz and Víctor Raúl Castillo Mantilla in 1981, in response to an offer made by a North American organization called Variety Club International. This company was a key player in the beginning of the FCV, as it provided funds for operations in the United States for children with heart conditions in third world countries.
ESFUERZOS EN PREVENCIÓN POR UN CORAZÓN SANO
A través de jornadas denominadas Corazón Sano, que se ofrecen para la población adulta y pediátrica, la institución le ofrece a la comunidad la posibilidad de acceder de forma gratuita a consultas de riesgo cardiovascular, exámenes diagnósticos, asesoría nutricional y controles de presión arterial, glicemia, talla y peso. Su objetivo es hacer una valoración rápida del estado de salud del paciente y ofrecerle información sobre los cuidados y recomendaciones que les lleven a gozar de un estilo de vida más saludable. Este programa atiende 1.200 pacientes cada año.
El club del corazón sano busca generar rutinas de control y de prevención saludables, junto con una disciplina de chequeo médico rutinario y periódico, educando a todos sus afiliados.
PREVENTION EFFORTS FOR A HEALTHY HEART
Through sessions called Healthy Heart, offered to adults and children, the organization provides the community with the opportunity to receive free consultations on cardiovascular risk; diagnostic tests; nutritional advice; and blood pressure, blood sugar, size, and weight controls. The objective of these services is to complete quick assessments of the patients’ health and offer them information regarding care and recommendations that will allow them to lead a healthier lifestyle. This program sees 1,200 patients each year.
The Healthy Heart club aims to generate healthy control and prevention routines, as well as the discipline of periodic and routine medical checks by educating all its members. To do this, special prevention plans were created with preferential rates.
MONTAÑAS AZULES
APOYO ECONÓMICO Y SOCIAL A PACIENTES
Las dificultades económicas que afrontan muchos de los pacientes provenientes de distintas ciudades del país motivó la creación en el año 2004 del programa Montañas Azules. Éste se encarga de cubrir todo aquello que el Sistema de Seguridad Social no le ofrece a sus afiliados, como el hos¬pedaje, la alimentación, elementos de aseo, el transporte, algunos exámenes diagnósticos, medicamentos no incluidos en el Plan Obligatorio de Salud POS y auxilios funerarios cuando se requiere, entre otros. Toda esta ayuda se materializa en La Casa Hogar, ubicada en el barrio Villabel de Floridablanca, con capacidad para albergar hasta treinta y cinco familias. En los últimos cinco años se han beneficiado más de mil familias en la mayoría de los casos madres y sus hijos enfermos provenientes de veinticinco departamentos de Colombia.
BLUE MOUNTAINS
FINANCIAL AND SOCIAL AID FOR PATIENTS
The financial difficulties faced by many of the patients from Santander’s capital and other cities in the country mo-tivated the creation of the Blue Mountains program in 2004. This program is in charge of covering all the resources that the Social Security System does not offer its members, including room, board, diapers, transportation, some tests, medications not included in the POS (Colombian Compulsory Health Plan), and funeral aid when required, among other things. All this help becomes a reality at the Casa Hogar, located in the Villabel Neighborhood in Floridablanca, and which has the capacity to house up to 35 families. Over the last five years over one thousand families – mostly mothers and their sick children – from twenty-five departments in Colombia have benefitted.
