Parte del aprendizaje de la FCV se ha dado a propósito de temas como la tecnología y la innovación, cuya importancia es cada día más evidente. Por ello, en 2006, planteó como estrategia hacia el futuro generar conocimiento a través de la gestión de la innovación y la tecnología, y de la investigación en áreas afines a la institución como: biotecnología, células madre, biomedicina, farmacéutica, desarrollo informático, prestación de servicios de salud y telemedicina, entre otros.
Esta estrategia, que promueve la generación del conocimiento, está orientada a implementar una cultura de innovación, que lleve a la obtención de registros y patentes.
INNOVATE TO REMAIN RELEVANT
One of the lessons learned by FCV has been closely related to technology and innovation, whose importance has become increasingly more evident. For this reason, in 2006 the FCV made it part of its strategy to generate knowledgebymanaging innovation and technology and by researching in areas related to the organization, such as: biotechnology, stem cell research, biomedicine, pharmaceutics, information technology development, healthcare service provision, and telemedicine, among others.
This strategy promotes the generation of knowledge and is focused on implementing a culture of innovation that results in filings and patents.

Sutmedical
Tras estudiar el campo de las suturas de la mano de los proveedores de hilos y agujas de países como Francia y Alemania, y entender que las exigencias cambian radical-mente de país a país, la unidad se concentró inicialmente en satisfacer los gustos y las preferencias de los cirujanos locales y actualmente se concentra en el desarrollo de productos para mercados internacionales.
Texmedical Esta línea de ropa quirúrgica se centró en las tareas de diseño y en la elaboración de accesorios con miras a brindarle al grupo asistencial y al paciente seguridad y comodidad en el quirófano.
Banco de TejidosEste banco de tejidos se encarga de obtener, extraer, procesar, preservar y almacenar tejido cardiovascular y óseo.
Mixmedical Se trata de una central de mezclas, dedicada a los ajustes de las concentraciones farmacológicas de acuerdo con las prescripciones médicas. Su objetivo consiste en satisfacer las necesidades de las iPS en todo lo relativo a nutrición parenteral y medicamentos.

After studying the field of sutures with the help of French and German thread and needle suppliers, and understanding that the demands change radically from country to country, this unit focused on responding to the preferences of local surgeons. Presently, the unit focuses on developing products for international markets.
Texmedical
This line of surgical scrubs focused on the design and pro-duction of accessories in order to provide comfort to assis-tant groups in the operating room.
Banco de Tejidos
This tissue bank obtains, extracts, processes, preserves, and stores cardiovascular and bone tissue.
Mixmedical
This unit is a mixture central which focuses on adjusting pharmacological concentrations according to medical prescrip¬tions. Its objective is to satisfy the needs of Hospitals in everything related to parenteral nutrition and medication.
SOFTWARE PARA HOSPITALES
La unidad estratégica de negocios FCV-SOFT nació en 1998 con el objetivo de diseñar un sistema integrado de in-formación para la administración de hospitales, algo inédito en el mercado de aquel entonces. Su principal logro ha sido el Sistema de Administración Hospitalario Integrado, SAHI, cuyos más de cuarenta módulos permiten articular procesos médicos, administrativos y asistenciales de cualquier hospital, y cuyo diferencial radica en que su lógica gira alrededor del paciente y de registros como su Historia Clínica electrónica. Esta infraestructura le ha permitido a la FCV certificarse nacional e internacionalmente en el campo de la administración de la in¬formación y, en el caso de la Joint Commission International, en el área de la seguridad del paciente.
SOFTWARE FOR HOSPITALS
The FCV-SOFT Strategic Business Unit was created in 1998 with the objective of designing an integrated information system for hospital management, something that had been lacking in the market at the time. The main achievement of the unit has been the Sistema de Administración Hos¬pitalario Integrado (SAHI: Integrated Hospital Management System) which has over forty modules that can integrate the medical, clerical, and nursing processes of any hospital. Its main difference with other systems is that SAHI’s logic focuses on patients and their records, including their electronic medical records. This structure has allowed FCV to become certified nationally and internationally in the field of information management and, in the case of the Joint Commission International, in the field of patient safety.
BIOINGENIERÍA - DISEÑOS QUE AYUDAN A VIVIR
El valor de esta UEE radica en que ha sabido crear y ensamblar productos para responder a las necesidades de equipamiento médico en los hospitales del país, aprovechando el conocimiento de profesionales locales. Gracias al apoyo financiero obtenido mediante convocatorias de Colciencias, Bioingeniería diseña, produce y ofrece soporte técnico y servicio de metrología para equipos biomédicos. Los diseños integran conectividad y tecnologías médicas, como ocurre con las Unidades de Cuidado Intensivo Neonatal, que reúnen tres tratamientos en una sola estructura.
BIOENGINEERING - DESIGNS THAT HELP TO LIVE
This SBU has proven its value by creating and assembling products that respond to medical equipment needs in the country’s hospitals by taking advantage of the contact with local professionals. Through support funds obtained from Colciencias, Bioengineering designs, produces, and provides technical support and metrology services for biomedical equipment. The designs integrate connectivity with medical technologies, as is the case with Neonatal Intensive Care Units which combine three treatments in a single structure.
TELEMEDICINA - MEDICINA A DISTANCIA
Una creciente integración de las ciencias médicas, los avances en telecomunicaciones e informática, la necesidad de ampliar la cobertura geográfica de la institución y el deseo de compartir conocimientos médicos especializados fueron las razones que llevaron a la FCV a incursionar en la telemedicina.

An increasing integration of medical sciences, the advances in telecommunications and information technologies, the need to expand the geographic coverage of the organization, and the desire to share specialized medical knowledge led FCV to venture into telemedicine.

Con la creación del área de Biotecnología, Innovación y Desarrollo Tecnológico, la FCV ha materializado proyectos como el montaje de los laboratorios de biología molecular y genética más avanzados del país, en donde se desarrollan proyectos de investigación clínica básicos y se complementan procesos de diagnóstico avanzado de enfermedades.
