Stages and Phases of the FCV Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program of the Instituto Cardiovascular of the FCV, has the following stages and phases that make possible the integral recovery of our patients:
Stage 1: Intrahospital
Activities developed by the physical therapy professional, aimed at improving the patient's physical condition.
Phase 1
Phase One or Hospitalization begins between 24 and 48 hours after a cardiac event, in the absence of symptoms, until the patient is discharged from the hospital, and aims to counteract the effects of prolonged rest on the patient, prepare him/her for discharge from the hospital and ensure safety in daily habits such as bathing, combing or dressing.
This phase is the ideal time to begin secondary prevention activities by prioritizing education regarding basic pathology and procedures performed, cardiovascular risk factors and their modification, diet, medications, adequate stress management, care upon return home, activities to be performed, and warning signs.
Stage 2: Outpatient
Activities developed by the medical team - interdisciplinary care, focused on promoting healthy lifestyles and biopsychosocial reintegration of the patient.
Phase 2
Phase Two or Convalescence is the phase from departure to 3 months. It is an intensive program of risk factor control and monitored exercise, which aims to improve functional capacity, modify cardiovascular risk factors, improve mood, and avoid depression, improve self-confidence and adherence to medication.
