The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are: fever over 38° (degrees), tiredness, difficulty breathing, runny nose and dry cough. These symptoms are usually mild and appear gradually. Some people become infected but do not develop any symptoms and are not sick.
According to the WHO, 1 in 6 people who contract COVID-19 develop a serious illness and have difficulty breathing. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions, such as: high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness.
