I studied medicine at Universidad Industrial de Santander, Colombia (1999) and continue to train in cardiovascular sciences at Fundacion Cardiovascular de Colombia (1999-2002). I worked as a clinical research fellow at the centre for clinical pharmacology, UCL (2002-2005) and then joined LSHTM (2005-2015) where I obtained my PhD in Epidemiology (2009). In 2013, I was appointed as Professor of Epidemiology at LSHTM. Since 2015, I worked at the Farr Institute of Health Informatics, of which I am the Deputy Director. I am the Director of the British Women's Heart and Health Study, Co-ordinating Editor of the Cochrane Heart Group, Co-PI of the GenPE study (www.genpe.org) and co-lead, together with Prof. Aroon Hingorani the UCLEB (UCL-LSHTM-Edinburgh-Bristol) consortium of cohorts.

I am a cardiologist and epidemiologist with expertise in clinical trials  systematic reviews, and implementation research. I trained in internal medicine and cardiology in Argentina and did a MSc and PhD in Epidemiology at the LSHTM where I am currently the Director of the Centre for Global NCDs. http://www.lshtm.ac.uk/centres/global_ncd/ .  

I am Deputy Editor of the Cochrane Heart Group and the Global Heart Journal. I divide my time between London and Geneva where I work as Senior Science Advisor for the World Heart Federation.

Dr Caroline Free is an Associate Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), a General Practitioner and Honorary Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health at Kings College Hospital. She obtained her medical degree from Leeds University, an MSc from LSHTM and PhD, focussing on contraception use, from the University of London. She worked as a clinician in rural India and continues to work in south-east London providing primary, sexual and reproductive health care to an ethnically and socio-economically mixed area of London.

Dionisio Martín Acosta Mena

Dionisio Acosta is the Director of the UCL Graduate Programme in Health Informatics where he lectures on decision support systems, machine learning and electronic health records. He is a recognised international expert with a strong track record of end-to-end implementations of decision support systems in Breast Cancer and Brain Tumours, from raw data processing to AI and machine learning methods for diagnosis and treatment selection. He was the UCL co-PI and pilot site coordinator for one of largest EU-IMI international public-private partnerships in re-use of electronic health records data for clinical research (EHR4CR, Euro +16 million). His research interests are in the application of machine learning methods, computational and statistical models in healthcare and biomedicine, specially in applications involving the analysis of magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy data.

 

 

Elizabeth Murray

Elizabeth Murray established the UCL eHealth Unit in 2003. The Unit’s research focuses on the use of new technologies, such as the Internet and mobile phones, to improve health and health care. The Unit has grown rapidly and now has around 20 staff, including 8 PhD students.

 

 

Robert Horne

Professor Rob Horne is Professor of Behavioural Medicine at the University College London (UCL) School of Pharmacy where he is Director of the Centre for Behavioural Medicine. In 2006, he joined the UCL School of Pharmacy where he established the Centre for Behavioural Medicine within the Research Department of Practice and Policy and was Head of Department between 2008 and 2012.  Following an initial decade in clinical pharmacy and medicines management within the NHS he completed a PhD in health psychology at Guys Medical School followed by a 17-year programme of research in behavioural medicine, focusing on the role of psychological and behavioural factors in explaining variation in response to treatment. His current interests centre on the development of interventions to support optimal engagement with essential treatments and effective medical innovations and on optimising the non-specific effects (placebo and nocebo components) of medicines. 

 

 

Amos Laar

Amos Laar (BSc, MPH, MA, PhD), a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Population, Family & Reproductive Health, has academic training in Nutrition, Public Health, and Bioethics. His interdisciplinary work spans Reproductive Health; Maternal and Young Child Nutrition, and Nutrition-related NCDs. He also researches into the socio-cultural, socio-ethical, and the medico-ethical dimensions of sexually, and perinatally transmissible infections (esp. HIV).

 

 

Lou Atkins

Lou is a researcher, trainer and consultant in behaviour change intervention design and evaluation. She is Senior Teaching Fellow at the UCL Centre for Behaviour Change and also a member of the Health Psychology Research Group at UCL. She is involved in a number of projects to change health professional behaviour, prevent and manage illness, improve security and promote environmental sustainability. She co-authored the book The Behaviour Change Wheel – A Guide to Designing Interventions.

 

 

Ajay Vamadevan

Ajay, a Public Health Scientist with doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from the University of London, has 15 years of experience, specifically in cardiovascular disease epidemiology and prevention. During the past eight years, his focus was on strengthening Health Systems, with the use of mHealth /eHealth technologies and electronic clinical decision support systems for improving access and quality of chronic disease care in primary care. He has led/leading (or part of the leadership team) six large mHealth/eHealth research projects in India. His work led to the development of the mPower Heart mHealth system which took evidence-based clinical management guidelines for hypertension and diabetes, implemented successfully at primary care in the Indian states of Tripura and Mizoram. The mPower Heart mHealth System holds copyright in India and was selected as a showpiece for the ‘Exhibition on Innovations in Medical Science and Biotechnology’ at the Presidential Palace of India. Has deep domain knowledge, combined with a strong technical background clinical research, operational, and strategic planning. He was an Emerging Leader Fellow of the World Heart Federation and was a Public Health Leader Fellow of the PHFI-Emory University Consortium. He has authored 24 papers in scientific journals, and several books/chapters/reports as well. 

Alma Adler

Alma completed her MSc in Public Health in Developing Countries in August 2007 when she joined the Maternal and Neonatal group.  Previous to joining the school, she recieved her PhD in Biological Anthropology and carried out research in several countries.
